MONTICELLO – A Glen Spey woman was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to five years in state prison and three years of post-release supervision for felony drug possession.
Vesna Colon, 45, was sentenced on March 14 following her guilty plea last July. She admitted to possessing cocaine with intent to sell it at her Forestburgh Road home in the Town of Lumberland.
She was arrested following an investigation by State Police and the execution of a search warrant at her home in March 2014. Troopers had been investigating the trafficking of drugs from her home and confiscated over one-half ounce of cocaine, 144 packets of heroin, roughly 50 grams of oxycodone and over $2,000 in cash.
State Police from the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, Troop F BCI in Liberty, Special Operations Response Team, Troop F Major Crimes and the FBI participated in the execution of the search that was prepared by the DA’s office.
She was ordered to forfeit the cash seized.
Colon’s husband, Jamal Colon, was previously sentenced in the same case to seven years in state prison and two years of parole for his conviction on felony drug possession charges last September.
“These defendants were involved in the distribution of narcotics from their home and the State Police along with the FBI and the DA’s Office conducted a successful investigation that resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics,” said Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell. “The sentences handed down on these two defendants underscore my office’s commitment to sending drug dealers to state prison. My office and my law enforcement partners will continue to investigate, apprehend, prosecute and old these individuals responsible and accountable with state prison sentences.”
