Edwards

MONTICELLO – By a one vote margin, Cora Edwards was approved by the Sullivan County Legislature to be the next Democratic elections commissioner.
The party chose Edwards for the post and it is standard procedure for the legislature to rubberstamp that confirmation, which Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez noted.
“The Democrats want her there so I thought that is what we had to do,” Alvarez said following a special meeting on Friday.
But, Alvarez plans to explore a county ethics law or resolution that would set the rules for appointments.
“I am for the law that no one who was a legislator could come back [in a county job] for a year,” he said.
The legislative vote was four-four with Republican Alvarez casting the tie-breaker, approving Edwards as the new Democratic elections commissioner.
