TARRYTOWN — Police divers returned to the Hudson River at the Tappan
Zee Bridge today searching for one last victim of last weekend’s fatal
crash between a tugboat and a stationary barge in place as part of the
new bridge construction. Two other victims’ bodies have been recovered.
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino said the decision to redeploy
State Police divers is based on information provided Monday evening by
commercial divers who were assessing the sunken vessel to develop a salvage
plan.
Astorino said all efforts are being made to locate the missing crewman
as soon as possible.
