WHITE PLAINS – The parents of DJ Henry, the Pace University student from Massachusetts, who was shot and killed by a Pleasantville police officer back in October 2010 have accepted an offer of $6 million for their 20-year-old son’s death.
The case filed by Danroy and Angella Henry was against the Village of
Pleasantville and Aaron Hess, the officer involved, who retired on a partial
disability some time later.
The Henrys’ related lawsuit continues against Town of Mount Pleasant and officers from the town, who they contend, failed to respond to the gunshot wounds from Officer Hess’ weapon.
Litigation also continues on behalf of the passengers in Henry’s car and former Pace University students who claim law enforcement violated their rights.
The Henrys’ attorney, Goshen civil rights lawyer Michael Sussman, said $6 million is “a reasonable award” even though nothing can replace the loss of their son.
“They have been spending their time building the DJ Henry Dream Fund Foundation and making opportunities to less privileged children from all over the state of Massachusetts and the region to participate in extracurricular activities, dance, music and lessons and sports and try to expand opportunities for these children one child at a time,” Sussman said.
Henry was behind the wheel of a stopped car in the parking lot of a shopping center when police responded to a report of disturbance. An officer jumped on the hood and fired into the car killing Henry and wounded another student.
