RED HOOK – A Mt. Tremper man was cited for the violation of confinement of a companion animal in a vehicle under extreme temperatures. They had been left in the car for some three hours without water.
State Police were called to the Lyceum Cinemas in Red Hook for a report of two dogs left in an unoccupied parked vehicle. A trooper found the animals, a husky and a bull-mastiff, were lethargic and drooling. He was hesitant to break a window because one of the dogs was acting aggressively. The Town of Red Hook animal control officer responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
A short time later, the dogs’ owner came out of the theater and removed the animals from the car, which was parked in full sun. The animals were given water and their condition improved.
The 70-year-old owner, who police did not publicly identify, was issued an appearance ticket returnable to town court.
