POUGHKEEPSIE – Eighth Ward Poughkeepsie City Alderman Tracy Hermann
died unexpectedly on Thursday morning.
Council Chairman Christopher Petsas said it is believed he suffered a heart attack.
“It was a total shock,” Petsas said when he heard the news. He just had breakfast with Hermann on Wednesday.
His death will create “a huge void” for the city as Hermann was a “tireless advocate” for Poughkeepsie, Petsas said.
Mayor Robert Rolison said Hermann “was a dedicated public servant whose passion for this city showed through in everything he did and in return he was beloved by the people of Poughkeepsie.”
Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro said Hermann’s passing will leave a void in the city. He took his civic responsibility “seriously, becoming a force for change within the city.”
Molinaro said Hermann was “always willing to work for the best of his city’s residents.”
Hermann was named February 1 as the new executive director of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center.
He is survived by his husband, Matt, and daughter Roxy.
