BEACON – The old Beacon landfill has been capped for years and it will be repurposed with development of a solar farm on it.
The city council will name BQ Solar to build and operate the facility, said Mayor Randy Casale.
“They will put the farm up at their cost, get the approval from DEC and Central Hudson and we will pay the difference between the 10-cents Central Hudson rate and the 7-cents that they proposed in electric and that is how we will save money on electric on the solar farm,” he said.
Casale said the city will save some $1.9 million in electric bills over
the life of the 20-year contract on the 11-acre solar farm.
