KINGSTON – While the majority
of threats to schools turn out to be hoaxes, officials at Kingston High
School investigate and take “very seriously any threat towards the
safety of our students and staff,” school Principal Kirk Reinhardt
said in an open letter to the community.
“Threats of school violence can breed fear, anxiety and frustration for educators, students and parents,” he wrote.
Reinhardt noted that recently there have been unfounded rumors of school violence at the high school.
“While we continue to be vigilant over these safety concerns, we want parents to know that a recent threat was thoroughly investigated and deemed to be without merit,” he said, noting the rumor “continues to cycle back to misinformation” from an incident that occurred at the school in February.
“We ask that students and parents be discerning when choosing to repeat information that is vague, lacks detail or credibility, is inconsistent, or implausible,” Reinhardt wrote. “This type of behavior leads to continued misinformation, and cultivates unnecessary fear and anxiety in our school community.”
