WAPPINGERS FALLS – It’s an annual reminder to excavators before the spring construction season kicks in – call 811 before digging to prevent accidentally striking underground utilities.
That message was delivered to the professionals on Tuesday at a conference conducted by Dig Safely New York in Wappingers.
Kevin Hopper, the executive director of Dig Safely New York, said calling 811 before digging is an important step to take.
“We want to make sure that the trained professionals are reminded about safety and taking safe procedures so that when they are out there and the big excavation season starts this spring, they are prepared,” Hopper said. “They remember the safety procedures and can keep our communities safe.”
A call to 811 will result in the area’s utility coming out and marking the approximate locations of their buried lines with paint or flags.
