TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A man, who was distraught over marital and personal
issues, threatened to jump off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Monday night,
but after 2 ½ hours of conversation with police crisis negotiators,
he gave up and was taken into custody.

Police said the 29-year-old man had walked to the center span of the bridge
and was clinging to the outermost railing on the south side, threatening
to jump.

Town of Newburgh and State Police made initial contact with the man until
the Troop F Crisis Intervention Team responded and assumed negotiations.

The man eventually climbed back onto the pedestrian walkway and was taken
into custody without further incident.

Town of Newburgh Police transported him to Orange Regional Medical Center
for evaluation.
