Man held for psychiatric exam after bizarre behavior in supermarket

SAUGERTIES – Saugerties Police arrested A 24-year-old man under the New York State Mental Hygiene Law, after responding to the Price Chopper on Ulster Avenue shortly after 2:00 Friday morning, for a reported unwanted subject.
Upon arrival, police were advised by the overnight store manager that the man was walking around the store displaying what appears to be Price Chopper employee identification and telling the store manager that he in fact was the manager. The suspect barricaded himself in the employee break room.
Members of the Saugerties Police Emergency Response Team and K9 Unit eventually gained entry to the break room, taking man into custody.  When police entered, the man jumped onto a table and then executed a back flip, landing on his back. He then began screaming at the officers, yelling that they had hurt him
The man was transported to the Kingston Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The investigation is continuing and misdemeanor criminal charges are pending for criminal trespass and criminal impersonation.
