YONKERS — Police are continuing to investigate an auto crash between
a suburban vehicle and a Yonkers fire truck that claimed the life of the
ddriver of the private vehicle, who was a Yonkers police officer.
The weekend accident, in the area of Palmer and Sunnybrook roads, resulted
in the death of Det. Frank Fernandez, 45, a 15-year veteran of the police
force.
Four firefighters were treated and released for minor injuries.
“The entire Yonkers community mourns the loss of Det. Frank Fernandez,”
said Mayor Michael Spano. “Frank was a dedicated officer, husband
and father. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fernandez family.”
