GOSHEN – A Central Valley man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Thursday to 12 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for having raped a 9-year-old girl. The district attorney’s office had recommended 14 years in prison.
On December 3, 2015 Erik Jarama, 35, pled guilty to first-degree rape admitting that in June 2015 he had sex with the child. The plea was entered by means of Superior Court Information to spare the victim from having to testify before a grand jury.
“Society will be safer during the more than one decade that this defendant will be incarcerated,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Society must be protected from predators who abuse positions of trust to victimize children. Children are the most vulnerable and most innocent victims.”
