TOWN OF WALLKILL – State Police charged a Walden man with tampering with physical evidence when he swallowed a bag of cocaine in an attempt to hide it when pulled over for a traffic infraction on Route 211 East in the Town of Wallkill last Friday afternoon.
Walter Herring, 34, was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center and admitted for possible cocaine poisoning.  He was charged with tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana after troopers found 50 bags of heroin, crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana.
Following his arrest, a warrant search was conducted at his residence, a mobile home in the Town of Montgomery, where police found a loaded 9 mm handgun, more cocaine and marijuana and over $11,500 in cash. The handgun had been reported stolen to Middletown Police in 2014.
Herring will be charged later with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property, police said.
