NEW CITY – A Haverstraw man faces up to 25 years in state prison following his conviction in Rockland County Court to two violent felony counts of burglary in connection with a March 12, 2015 attack on three people inside a private home in the Village of Haverstraw.
Dillon Ortiz, 19, and two others entered the residence while he concealed a small baseball bat in the sleeve of his hooded sweatshirt. One of the suspects punched the homeowner’s son while Ortiz and the other accomplice attacked a friend of the son. During the attack, Ortiz used the baseball bat to hit the friend in the head several times. Two windows broken during the violence left one of the victims with a deep gash in the left forearm that required hospital treatment.
Haverstraw Police investigated and arrested Ortiz, who remains in the Rockland County Jail pending his sentencing in April.
