BEACON – The City of Beacon will likely be transformed from a day trip destination to an overnight one with the development of two new hotels on Main Street.
A boutique hotel is being constructed from the ground up on the west end and the former Mount Beacon Hotel on the east end of Main is being converted from a single room occupancy boarding house to a hotel by its new owners.  Add those to the Roundhouse Hotel on the Fishkill Creek.
Mayor Randy Casale believes the city will become more of a tourist destination than it is now.
“It will make us, instead of a day destination, people will be able to come here and stay for the weekend and stay right in Beacon and walk to things instead of having to stay in the outlying Fishkill area and drive to Beacon and they will be able to do a lot more things here for the whole weekend,” Casale said.
Beacon has developed into a tourism destination already with the DIA Arts Center, its restaurants and antique shops.
