TOWN OF WALLKILL – Two of Ramona Gonzalez’s four children
last Friday alerted a neighbor that their mother was missing and that
they hadn’t seen her since before school on Thursday.

The neighbor of the Liberty woman, believing her disappearance was suspicious,
alerted the police.

State Police Troop F Commander Major Joseph Tripodo said Monday that on
Saturday night, February 6, as a result of the investigation, Ramona Gonzalez’s
body was located in a wooded area off Willow Heights Road in South Fallsburg.
She was the victim of a gunshot wound.

The murder weapon, a shotgun, was found near her body.

Her husband, Jorge Gonzalez, was later arrested and charged with murder
and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in Sullivan County
Jail, without bail.

The investigation, between the State Police and the Village of Liberty
Police Department, and assisted by the Sullivan County District Attorney’s
Office and the Town of Fallsburg Police Department, is still ongoing.

No motive for the killing has been released.
