WASHINGTON – Repairs to the Sandy-ravaged Yonkers Waterfront Park will benefit from a more than $5.4 million FEMA grant. The money will be used to cover administrative costs and replace damaged power switches and transformers.
During Superstorm Sandy over three years ago, waterproofing measures failed from pressure, allowing floodwaters to damage electrical components and connections in the group and wall mounted fixtures, underground junction boxes, conduits, and power switches and transformer cabinets.
Yonkers Mayor Michael Spano said the funding will allow for restoration of the underground lamp post wiring for 74 lights that line the esplanade, illuminating the city’s waterfront.
The grant was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Eliot Engel.
