Man who stabbed 15-year-old was girl’s stepfather

SPRING VALLEY – The man believed to have stabbed a 15-year-old Spring Valley girl several times on Wednesday is the girl’s stepfather and police got a break when he was involved in a car accident on I-20 in Columbia County, Georgia at 9 a.m. Thursday after he fled in a car owned by the victim’s mother.
Police said Walter Carpio-Galicia, 32, who lives at 109 Lake Street in Spring Valley, where the incident occurred, was being held by authorities in Georgia after Spring Valley Police issued a nationwide bulletin for the man.
Police were called to the Lake Street residence of the family at 2:45 p.m. and found the girl suffering from several stab wounds to her body. She was rushed to Westchester Medical Center where she underwent surgery.
