Fire heavily damages Middletown home

MIDDLETOWN – Fire that broke out about 1 this morning at 26 Smith Street caused significant fire, smoke and water damage.
Tenants in the two-story structure were alerted by smoke detectors and escaped unharmed. They were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
There were no firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit.
