KINGSTON – An Accord man has been sentenced in Ulster County Court to six months in jail and five years of probation for killing his girlfriend’s dog because the eight-year-old pet urinated on furniture.
Last Thursday, Judge Donald Williams granted the district attorney’s request that Michael Oramas, 31, receive counseling and forfeit his right to own or care for any animal after his release from prison.
In October 2015, Oramas pled guilty admitting that he had inflicted injuries that caused the dog’s death on March 26, 2015. The dog died from blunt force trauma injuries that included broken ribs, a punctured lung, and broken mandible, as well as other internal injuries inflicted on her for urinating on household furniture.
According to Assistant DA Emmanuel Nneji, the dog’s owner had a four-year-old son and is engaged to, and lives with, Oramas. She was present in court and sought to have him sentenced to probation with counseling.
