MONTGOMERY – The Orange County Airport in Montgomery is operated
by the county. There have been fixed base operators from time to time
providing the fuel and other services.

The county’s Airport Advisory Committee may explore operating the
airport that way in the future. The group has already looked at a study
by airports expert Steven Baldwin, who used to work for the state aviation
department.

He has conducted a similar study for Dutchess County Airport, which is
leading that county to hiring a private operator.

Orange County Legislator John Vero, chairman of the county’s Airport
Advisory Committee, said a study may come about.

“One of the things you would have to approve first is an analysis
either by Stephen Baldwin Associates or someone like him and then to act
on whatever his recommendations are. If they were to go that route, if
you did recommend a fixed base operator, that is still something we would
have to sell to the legislature as well,” Vero said.
Like most other small county airports, the Orange County facility services
recreational pilots and some smaller business flyers.
