GREENVILLE – Black ice may have been the culprit in a fatal auto
accident on Mountain Road and Route 6 in the Town of Greenville at 7 Thursday
morning that claimed the life of a Minisink Middle School technology teacher.

Christopher Corwin of Glen Spey died hours after the accident when his
car ran off the road and struck a tree.

Minisink Valley Superintendent of Schools Brian Monahan said the death
of Corwin, who was on his way to work, was “shocking news.”
He said Corwin was “an integral and invaluable part of our school
district, consistently devoting time and talents that went beyond curriculum
requirements and the educational needs of his students.”

He said school counselors were made available to aid faculty, staff and
students, who may need grief counseling. School counselors and psychologist
will be available through the district Friday and in the days and weeks
ahead to offer support as needed.

“Children express grief in different ways,” Monahan wrote
in a letter to parents. “Some may be very upset, while others may
exhibit seemingly inappropriate responses. Even if your child has not
had direct ties to Mr. Corwin, he/she still may be very upset by this
event.”

Monahan said parents should encourage their children to express their
feelings.

The superintendent said Corwin “touched and inspired the lives of
many, and he will be greatly missed.”
