NEWBURGH – A vacant lot between the Safe Harbors housing community
and City Hall in Newburgh is going to be transformed into an urban oasis
by the Safe Harbors organization.
The lot, which was once considered for housing development, will be transformed this spring and summer into the Urban Green with a number of passive uses, said Safe Harbors’ Executive Director Lisa Silverstone.
“The park will include full ADA accessibility, so anybody can access the park and go from Broadway to Ann Street on a full ADA accessible pathway,” Silverstone said.  “We will have solar lighting and a beautiful rainwater-stormwater management garden. There will be native plantings there. There will be benches and grasses for contemplation and conversation and it will also be activated as a public space for performance and community celebrations and markets.”
Groundbreaking is expected in early May with substantial completion by July and full completion for public use by early September.
