Over 5,000 envelopes of heroin seized, two arrested in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – Warrant searches at three locations in the City of Newburgh and one in the Town of New Windsor resulted in the arrests of two people and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs and cash.
City and Town of Newburgh and Town of Woodbury SWAT teams, Town of New Windsor Police, members of the ATF and FBI Safe Streets Task Force raided the locations and arrested Percy Smith, 43, and Chenita Hayes, 38. Smith was charged with six felony counts of drug possession and Hayes was charged with two felony counts.
Investigators recovered approximately 5,515 glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin weighing about 142 grams and having a street value of over $55,000.  Also recovered was felony weight crack cocaine and over $51,000 in cash.
The investigation is continuing and police said additional arrests are forthcoming.
