WHITE PLAINS – Repairs will continue on the Fulton Avenue Drawbridge that connects Mount Vernon and Pelham at the site of a major retail and industrial district.  Some 12,000 cars cross it every day.
Since 2012, $9.37 million was allocated by the Westchester County Board of Legislators with another $2.85 million in bonding approved earlier this month.
The new funding will finance replacement of steel members and piers, rehabilitation of wearing surfaces, painting, rebalancing of bascule spans, rehabilitation of mechanical and electrical components and renovation and/or replacement of metal bulkheads for riverbank protection.
The bridge was built in 1974 with the state Department of Transportation closing it following an inspection that determined the steel piers had deteriorated to a point that was unsafe. The bridge has since reopened.
