TOWN OF SAUGERTIES – The investigation into the December 19, 2015
fire at 11 Fel Qui Road in the Town of Saugerties that claimed the life
of Mount Marion firefighter Captain Jack Rose, 19, has concluded that
he died as a result of the inhalation of superheated gases, leading to
irreversible respiratory failure.

That subsequently resulted in cardiac arrest, according to the New York
State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and Saugerties Police.

Police and the state Department of Labor are continuing that portion
of the investigation.

Authorities also determined that the cause of the fire, which started in a wall, was accidental involving a wood stove situated along that wall.
