NAPANOCH – State Police, aided by a K-9 unit, and state prison officials days ago conducted a thorough search of the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch following the interception of a questionable letter mailed to an inmate.
The letter, received at the prison several days ago, told the intended recipient that it contained parts to help the prisoner escape from the facility.
Investigation turned up nothing suspicious.
In an unrelated incident, a prisoner at Eastern Correctional Facility allegedly attacked a corrections officer by punching him in the face.
When an inmate was ordered back to his cell because contraband was found on him, he became unruly and assaulted the officer. The inmate was transferred to a special housing unit and is awaiting an internal disciplinary hearing.
