ALBANY – Democrats in the state Assembly hold a wide majority over Republicans and drive debate and the outcome of votes on key issues.
On Tuesday, Republicans proposed a package of changes, which were reject, indicating to GOP member Karl Brabenec (R, Deerpark) politics as usual.
“We have some great elected officials in the Hudson Valley but some of these local elected officials here that are in the assembly voted no to some of these proposals,” Brabanec said. “I don’t understand it. Voting no to these proposals, you are being a true enemy of reform and you want business as usual here. These are common sense proposals that need to be passed. Hopefully they will be passed somewhere down the line.”
Republicans have proposed term limits for legislative leaders, no more midnight voting sessions, posting votes on the Internet within 24 hours, and broadcasting committee meetings live.
