NEW WINDSOR – Republican Colin Schmitt, who ran unsuccessfully in an Assembly primary in 2012 and since then was director of the Senate Veterans and Homeland Security Committee, is looking at a possible run for the 99th Assembly District seat this fall.
That post is currently held by Democrat James Skoufis.
Schmitt is holding a series of “Coffee with Colin” meetings with district residents to hear what is on their minds; he has held two of 10 such sessions so far with common concerns.
“Corruption, the economy and the general affordability to live here and be able to stay here in a state they were born and raised,” he said.
Skoufis has not said if he will seek reelection as rumors continue that he may challenge long-time Republican State Senator William Larkin in November. Larkin, who will be 88 next month, said he plans to seek another term this fall.
