POUGHKEEPSIE – The Alliance@IBM has suspended its union organizing efforts, which it began in 1999.
National Coordinator Lee Conrad said they tried all of those years unsuccessfully
to unionize IBM’s employees in the Mid-Hudson Valley, nationwide
and around the world.
“There is a lot of fear inside IBM,” Conrad claimed.  “There is a toxic atmosphere inside IBM. It came to a point where trying to get a union inside IBM was not going to happen.”
Conrad said he will continue to get information out, “but as a union organizing campaign, unfortunately it was time to call a halt.”
Conrad said they tried to “push back when we could but we didn’t have enough people power to change the working conditions or to stop the massive job cuts or off-shoring at IBM.”
