TOWN OF WALLKILL – Just as the development of Orange Regional Medical Center has added to the identity of Wallkill as the town “where happy babies are born,” the municipality has begun to develop its own identity and reap the benefits from it, Town Supervisor Daniel Depew told residents Tuesday evening.
Depew was sworn in for another two-year term along with town board members and discussed town accomplishments and future plans.
He said the growth in the town, from retail to commercial and residential, is as the result of a team effort of town officials.
“We were in a spot where this town is kind of the Epcot Center of Orange County. We have everything – the mall and the industry and rural places to live and apartment complexes and those different things and virtually no identity,” the supervisor said.
As difficult as that is with five school districts and seven fire departments,
Depew said his administration is turning that around with unified town
boards securing state and federal grants, balancing budgets and leading
to a rebirth of the town.
