WEST POINT – Brigadier
Gen. Diana Holland assumed command as the Commandant of Cadets on Tuesday.
She is the first woman to hold the post at West Point.
The 1990 graduate of West Point holds a Master of Arts degree from Duke
University and was a professor in the Department of History at the USMA.
Her military education includes US Army Command and General Staff College
and the School of Advanced Military Studies.
She most recently served as Deputy Commanding General for Support, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Fort Drum, New York.
Holland told her welcoming ceremony and passing of the colors that she is honored to take on her new role.
“I am very grateful to be part of this opportunity, first to be part of a winning team that demonstrates continued excellence and contributes to our nation in such significant ways in times of peace and in conflict,” Holland said. “Second, the opportunity to work with incredibly talented young men and women such as those that you find here. They are an inspiration and serve as a constant reminder that the future of our Army will be in good hands.”
Holland replaces Maj. Gen. John Thomson III, who was reassigned.
