KINGSTON – The Kingston teen, who was shot during the investigation of a reported break-in at the Chase Bank branch in the Kingston Plaza in Kingston on May 28, 2015, pled guilty in Ulster County Court to burglary and was sentenced to 2 1/3 to seven years in state prison.
Alexander Jeffries, 18, admitted he had entered the bank through an unsecured back door with the intention to commit a crime. He was captured in video attempted unsuccessfully to enter the vault.  Jeffries then left, obtained a mask and handgun and returned to the bank at around midnight, unaware that he had triggered a silent alarm.
Before he got back into the bank, a police officer arriving at the scene encountered him. Jeffries raised his handgun and pointed it at the officer, who fired one shot from his service revolver, striking Jeffries in the torso. The officer then administered medical assistance.
Jeffries’s weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun, was recovered.
The officer’s use of force was presented to a grand jury, which determined his actions were appropriate.
