SILVER LAKE – Justin Speights’ mother, Lisa, asked the community to come forward with any information leading the arrest of those who stabbed her son to death on New Year’s morning.
Speights, 20, was a firefighter with the Silver Lake Fire Department in the Town of Wallkill. He was at a party in the Town of Crawford where an estimated 100 people attended and when he attempted to break up a fight, was stabbed to death.
His mother spoke with reporters on Monday.
“I just want to say if anyone knows anything, please come forward for Justin,” Lisa said. “My son did not deserve this at all.”
Silver Lake spokesman Jeff Jaques said Speights was a “true hero” conveying stories of how he would take a cab to a fire if he had no transportation or would ride his bike to the firehouse if the fire alarm sounded. “He was very dedicated to his work.”
Jaques announced the fire department and members of the community are offering a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Speights’ death. State Police, who are investigating the murder, may be reached at 845-344-5300.
