Slippery conditions result in numerous accidents

MID-HUDSON – A layer of
snow and ice followed by freezing rain made for treacherous driving conditions
this morning as we got our first taste of winter so far this season.

Several accidents were reported across the Hudson Valley/Catskill region.

In Orange County alone, 41 property damage accidents were reported between
midnight and 9:30 a.m. Accidents were reported across the county as well
as in Dutchess, Ulster, Putnam and Sullivan counties.

In some cases, vehicles had to be towed out after crashing into ditches,
guardrails or other objects.
In Livingston Manor, a vehicle overturned on Route 17 westbound near
exit 96.
In Catskill there was an overturned vehicle on Route 23A at Underhill
Road.
In New Paltz, on Route 32 north in the area of Cameo Lake Road, a two
vehicle crash left two people pinned. Police said the Toyota Camry veered
into the opposite lane and collided with a box truck. All three people
in the car were as well as the truck driver were taken to an area hospital.

Slippery conditions were a contributing factor to the accident, police
said.
Overturned vehicles were reported on South Quaker Lane in Pleasant Valley
and West Clinton on Quarry Road resulted in overturned vehicles. There
were also overturned vehicles on South Plank road in Minisink and Albany
Post Road in Montgomery.
A tractor-trailer overturned on the Thruway northbound in New Paltz
and another tractor-trailer overturned in I-84 on the Putnam-Dutchess
County line.

Sanding trucks were out in many municipalities spreading out material
to provide more traction for motorists.
