TOWN OF CRAWFORD – Police in the Town of Crawford charged a local man with attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment after he allegedly went to a woman’s home in the Town of Montgomery on Tuesday night and would not let her leave for an extended period of time before transporting her to his home in Crawford.
The victim again tried to leave, but was unable to. During the course of the incident, Brian Gallagher, 39, of Crawford, allegedly threatened her with a knife and attempted to rape her.
Crawford Police became aware of the situation when Montgomery Town Police asked them to check the welfare of one of their residents, who was possibly on Hardenburgh Road in Pine Bush.
Gallagher was charged with attempted rape, menacing, unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault. He was committed to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
The victim was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where she was treated for her injuries and for further observation.
Montgomery Police assisted Crawford Police in the investigation. Additional charges are pending and both departments are continuing to investigate.
