Peekskill man charged in Agosto murder

PEEKSKILL – A Peekskill man is being held without bail in the Westchester County Jail on a murder charge in connection with Sunday night’s shooting death of Stephen Agosto, 22, in the city. He was found around 10:25 p.m. lying on the sidewalk on the 1400 block of Park Street. He had been shot several times and was unresponsive. He died shortly after being rushed to a hospital.
Janeil Myke, 24, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit as he left his residence at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police Chief Eric Johansen said that during questioning, Myke disclosed he was the person who shot Agosto, the chief said. The motive is being investigated.
Johansen credited the “outstanding police work” of his officers, detectives and supervisors by conducting several interviews and executing many warrant searches.
City police were assisted in the investigation by the FBI Violent Crime Task Force, US Attorney’s Office, State Police, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, Westchester County Intelligence Center, New York State Crime Stopper, New York City Police and Teaneck, New Jersey Police.
