WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man has been charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter, one count of criminally negligent homicide and three counts of DWI following the crash of the car he was driving that resulted in the death of a passenger.
At about 1:40 a.m. on September 7, Hasani Ewan, 39, of Mount Vernon, was eastbound on the Cross County Parkway in the vicinity of Seminary Bridge in Yonkers. Also in the car was Elouise Spears of the Bronx, who was a front seat passenger.  Ewan drove the car off the highway and crashed into the bridge abutment killing Spears.
When police arrived, they detected signs that Ewan might be under the influence of some substance.  They also smelled alcohol on his breath and the odor of marijuana coming from his clothing.  The blood drawn at the hospital revealed he had a .13 percent BAC.
He sustained a cut to his face from the accident and was taken to the hospital where he was arrested upon his release.
Ewan is out of jail on $75,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in state prison.
