NEWBURGH – US Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney added their voices on Wednesday to those who paid their respects to Tech Sgt. Joseph Lemm and Staff Sgt. Louis Michael Bonacasa, both of whom were among the six American soldiers killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan Monday.
Schumer was in Middletown and Poughkeepsie to discuss more federal aid for infants born from mothers with opioid abuse and he took time out to discuss the deaths of the airmen, who were stationed at the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard at Stewart Airport at Newburgh.
“One of the amazing things about America is that we have our finest, and these two young men were our finest, volunteer, and risk their lives for our safety, and some make the ultimate sacrifice as these two fine gentlemen did,” the senator said. “Our thoughts and prayers go to their families and them. They are heroes, quiet heroes.”
Maloney said all New Yorkers mourn the deaths of the two men, who have “given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. As we gather with family this holiday season we must all remember those brave service members and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers.”
