NEW YORK – A year after
the Montreign Casino and Resort was selected as the only legalized gaming
facility to be constructed in the Catskills-Hudson Valley region.

Construction on the Montreign casino at the site of the former Concord
Hotel in Kiamesha Lake will now begin in earnest. Installation of infrastructure
has, over the last several months, been undertaken.

Sullivan County casino supporters gathered in Rock Hill to watch
the granting of the license webcast live from New York City

The casino, according to the law that legalized gaming, must be up and
running in two years.

Government and economic development officials across the region believe
Montreign and its future related recreation and entertainment projects
will place Sullivan County on the map as a major destination.

“The people of Sullivan County have exemplified patience. Forty years
and countless stops and starts, but today, we’re realizing the dream of
generations.” Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther said immediately after
the vote. “The people at Montreign and Adelaar have put their faith
in New York and in Sullivan County. They’re true partners in what I know
will be a very bright future.”
Senator John Bonacic said he is “confident that this resort will
be the beginning of an economic renaissance for the Catskills. Congratulations
to the Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, and all the other counties that
will benefit from this resort when it is built and operating.”
