Capt. Jack Rose

MT. MARION – A volunteer fireman with the Mt. Marion Fire District who died while fighting a fire Saturday night was only 19 years old.
He was identified Sunday as Jack Rose of Saugerties.
Members of the Centerville Fire Department were called to a chimney fire at 11 Fel Qui Road in the Centerville Fire District at 7 p.m. with Mount Marion firefighters dispatched under mutual aid.   The fire turned out to be in a basement and as Rose was inside the house, he became separated from other members of his team, but was quickly located and removed from the basement where he became unresponsive.
Fellow firefighters initiated lifesaving measures and Diaz Ambulance paramedics transported him to the HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus in Kingston where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the fire and Rose’s death are under investigation
by Saugerties Police, the state Office of Fire Prevention
and Control, and the Ulster County Bureau of Cause and Origin.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated through Seamon-Wilsey of Saugerties. A “gofundme” account has also been established at www.gofundme.com/captainjackrose.
Rose was a three-year member of the Mt. Marion Fire Department who was recently elected to the rank of captain. Fire Chief Dave Ayers said his department is “devastated over the loss of such a young life and a devoted member of the community.” The chief said Rose was “loved by all in the fire service who knew him.”
