Suspected bank robbers in custody

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Police
agencies have taken three suspects into custody following the robbery
of the Sterling National Bank branch on Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh
late Wednesday afternoon.

The robbers fled to the Thruway and were stopped about three miles south
of the Newburgh tolls a short time later by Newburgh and State Police.
One was immediately taken into custody while two others fled into the
wood.

A large-scale manhunt was conducted in the Route 94/Riley Road area of
New Windsor. The two suspects were located over the next hour.

Initial reports indicated some $600 had been stolen from the bank.

Newburgh Town Police were assisted by State Police and BCI, State Police
Aviation, Orange County Sheriff’s patrols, City of Newburgh Police,
FBI and other agencies.

The investigation is continuing.
