POUGHKEEPSIE – Dr. Kari Reiber, the long time Dutchess County medical
examiner and more recently county health commissioner has announced her
retirement effective December 29.
She has served the county for 12 years.
County Executive Marcus Molinaro recently named Dr. Henry Kurban as the
first commissioner of the county’s new Department of Behavioral
and Community Health – a merger of the departments of Health and
Mental Health – and he will lead the new department when the merger
officially takes effect on January 1, 2016.
Molinaro said for 12 years, Dr. Reiber “has made a vital difference
in Dutchess County residents’ lives, and she will be missed by all
who have worked with her throughout her career.”
Reiber is credited with designing and modernizing the county’s medical
examiner program, using the most up-to-date medical and forensic science
techniques. She has been at the forefront of regional emergency planning
initiatives, bringing Dutchess County into the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut
and Pennsylvania Regional Catastrophic Planning Team.
