Poughkeepsie man arrested in Gardiner stabbing

KINGSTON – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Jamaican citizen currently living in Poughkeepsie on a felony assault charge.
Carlinton Augustus, 37, allegedly stabbed a woman resulting in a collapsed lung. She was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment.
Augustus fled the early morning, Monday incident before deputy sheriffs arrived on the scene. He was located hiding in a wooded area not far from where the incident occurred about 2 ½ hours later.
Deputies were assisted by State Police and their aviation unit, State DEC Police, Plattekill and New Paltz Police and the Gardiner Fire Department.
Augustus was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
