NEW YORK – The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has targeted $5.1 million to help public housing and Housing Choice Voucher residents in New York to improve their lives.
HUD spokesman Charles McNally said the money will provide people with
the tools to succeed in the workplace and become independent.
“It’s for jobs, education to help connect them to opportunities they need to generate more income and to ultimately become more self-sufficient,” McNally said.
Three housing authorities in the region will receive funding – Monticello will be able to hire two people for just under $75,000; the Village of Highland Falls will receive $33,000 for a half-time employee; and the Village of Kiryas Joel will receive $66,200 for one person.
Those federally-funded individuals will be counselors to provide the education for residents to secure good jobs.
