ALBANY – Governor Cuomo nominated Westchester County District Attorney
Janet DiFiore on Tuesday to serve as the chief judge of the New York State
Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court.
DiFiore has served as district attorney for 10 years and has experience as a prosecutor and judge.
Cuomo said DiFiore, a fellow Democrdat, is “tremendously qualified” to serve as chief judge. Her nomination will have to be confirmed by the State Senate.
DiFiore has many accomplishments to her credit. She led an investigation into the case of Jeffrey Deskovic, who had been wrongfully convicted and sentenced as a teenager in 1990 for rape and murder. In addition to proving hi innocent and securing his release from prison, DiFiore’s investigation resulted in the confession and sentencing of the actual killer.
