HOWELLS – Wallkill town residents are now the owners of the former Korn Campground in the Howells section of the town. The town closed on the sale Tuesday paying $680,000 in cash for the 75-acre facility along the Shawangunk Kill.
Town Supervisor Daniel Depew said the town will issue a request for proposals to contract with a company to manage and operate the facility from May through October.
He also has thoughts about adding amenities to the property.
“We will most likely make some upgrades if we are successful with
some grants that we are putting up to the state for a playground to upgrade
the playground there so that way the playground would automatically be
a public use for families with children who live out in that section of
the town, who were under-served when it comes to recreation and we are
looking for interested parties to manage the campgrounds to we can be
up and running as soon as possible,” Depew said.
The town was able to pay cash for the acquisition because it sold the old town hall property for $1.5 million earlier this year.
