Car crashed into house after it struck vehicle coming out of driveway

RHINEBECK – Rhinebeck fire and police departments investigated
a five-car collision in front of 7 South Street in the village minutes
before 12 noon on Wednesday.

Police were initially dispatched to a report of a two-car personal injury
accident and when they arrived on the scene, they learned it involved
five vehicles.

Fire department officials said the accident appeared to have occurred
when one car was pulling out of a driveway on the south side of South
Street and was struck by an eastbound vehicle, then hitting a parked car
and careening across the street striking two other vehicles, a tree, and
then continued on until being stopped by a brick pillar and support beam
of the house.

The town building inspector responded to the scene and deemed the structure
safe.

The driver of the car that crashed into the house was taken by Northern
Dutchess Paramedics to a local hospital for medical evaluation and the
driver of the other vehicle refused medical aid.
