WHITE LAKE – A White Lake man was arrested by Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday night after he allegedly drove his pickup truck into a residential drive and fired several shots from a rifle. No one was injured and the suspect, Ryan Diventi, 30, fled.
A short time later, deputies found his truck at a hunting camp on County Route 115 in the southwest corner of the Town of Bethel. Deputies, State Police and Town of Bethel Constables responded and cordoned off the area. The sheriff’s Emergency Services Unit was called to the scene and attempted to make contact with Diventi, who was holed up in the trailer.
At 9:50 p.m., he left the trailer, got into his truck and attempted to flee toward Narrowsburg but a police roadblock, including the sheriff’s armored vehicle, blocked his escape.
Diventi was unarmed when arrested, but a search of his trailer led to the discovery of several rifles, a sawed off shotgun and several rounds of ammunition.
Deputies received information that he had recently made threats over the past few weeks to shoot police officers or EMS personnel.
Diventi was charged with reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon, both as felonies, DWI and driving with a suspended license. He was also charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of an occupied building.
